The Hidden Coffee Shops of Goa Worth Flying For
Five places, in north and south, that the Instagram crowd has not found yet.
I have lived in Goa on and off for three years. Coffee culture here has exploded since 2024 — every village now has at least one place trying to be the best one. Most of them are fine. A few are extraordinary.
These five are not the most photogenic. They are the ones I go back to.
1. Khushi Cafe, Assagao
The owner roasts on Wednesdays. If you turn up on a Wednesday afternoon, you will smell it from two streets away. Single-origin from a farmer she knows in Coorg. Order the espresso. The pastry is a bonus.
2. Mr. Brown's, Panjim
Tiny, three tables, walk-in only. The owner used to work in Melbourne. The flat white is the most Melbourne-correct thing in India. Cash only.
3. Black Sheep Bistro, Panjim
Yes, it is also a restaurant. Yes, the breakfast crowd is mostly digital nomads. The coffee is still some of the best in the state, and the courtyard at 9am with the door open is genuinely lovely.
4. The Coffee Club, Mapusa
Hiding inside the spice market. Looks like a regular bar from outside. The pour-over is poured by a former barista from Tokyo who moved here for "the quiet."
5. Subko, Goa
The Bombay roastery opened a south-Goa outpost. It is a destination, not a casual stop. Bring time.
None of these will be a secret in a year. Go this year.
