The Cleanroom Workstation Standard That Serious Facilities Professionals Never Compromise On

In a controlled environment, controlled decisions are required. Whether it's the air-handling system above or workstations below, each specification directly affects the integrity of the environment and the quality of the products manufactured in that environment in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology research, medical device production, semiconductor fabrication, and advanced food processing.

Those specifications, one is most important for long-time use of a cleanroom workstation—the material the benching and furniture is made of all the available material options, the Cleanroom clean benches with 316 stainless steel construction  are the most highly contaminated-resisting, chemical-compatible and long-lasting material that is available in the industry.

Superlift is your trusted material handling and cleanroom equipment expert when demanding this standard, with product expertise, technical knowledge and application support to provide it.

Why 316 Stainless Steel Sets the Standard for Cleanroom Workstations

It's a distinction that is well known to the experienced cleanroom engineer, but is best explained to the newcomer to the specification.

The two grades are very resistant to general corrosion in normal service. 316 stainless steel, however, is rich in molybdenum, which provides good resistance to chloride attack, pitting corrosion, and chemical degradation by the aggressive disinfectants, sanitising agents, and aggressive process chemicals that are a common occurrence in pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device cleanrooms.

Over a period of time, this disparity becomes the difference. Continual exposure of a 304 stainless steel surface to repeated cycles of cleaning agents which contain chloride can lead to surface pitting which forms particle-trapping areas and microbial harbouring sites directly affecting the cleanroom integrity. When used properly, a properly maintained, 316 stainless steel surface on a Cleanroom clean bench is smooth and non-porous throughout its useful life, providing consistent and effective decontamination cycle to cycle throughout its service life cycle.

Our cleanroom benching solutions are designed with all of these features in mind, and are continuously welded and ground to eliminate particle-trapping joints, precision specified surface finishes, radiused corners for complete cleaning access, and robust construction that resists the physical demands of active cleanroom use without degradation.
