Safety Rules To Become a Confident Scuba Diver
If you are planning to take up scuba diving courses, we walk you through some essential safety rules that every scuba diver should be aware of.
Whether you are a male or a female, scuba diving can be an exciting and rewarding experience. While the underwater world presents unique challenges and risks, the daring to face these challenges and master the maneuvering under the water turns you into a strong individual. If you are planning to take up scuba diving courses, we walk you through some essential safety rules that every scuba diver should be aware of.
Tip 1 – Never hold your breath
When you are under the water, never hold your breath. As you dive, the volume of our lungs and the density of the air we breathe change as we encounter different amounts of water pressure at varied depths. The deeper the dive, the denser the air will become and the greater will be the volume in our lungs. As you dive deeper, the air in your lungs becomes less dense and starts to expand.
You must breathe continuously, which will allow the air to escape rather than expand and potentially rupture your lungs or send air bubbles into your bloodstream.
When you are taking up scuba diving in Sri Lanka, it is also important to realize, that females move unintentionally upwards in the water column. When this happens, they put themselves at risk of lung expansion injuries. Lung expansion injuries occur when a diver holds her breath when going up. Some of the symptoms include pain, shortness of breath, and difficulty in breathing.
You must practice breathing before you go for your dive. Practice your breathing from the diaphragm, filling and emptying your lungs. Regular yoga practice will help you land better breathing under the water.
Tip 2 – Dive with a Buddy, Always
Whether it is your first chance of scuba diving in Sri Lanka or you are a pro, we suggest that you dive with a buddy. When you are under the water, you become helpless. You cannot call anyone for help and thus, a buddy will always be there to save you from any mishaps. Before you submerge yourself into an alien world and become a victim of some equipment malfunction or human error, keep a buddy with you to share the problems and find solutions there.
Tips 3 – Dive within your limits and training
Many people have learned it the hard way, but you must always dive within your training limits. You have taken scuba diving courses and know up to what depth you can dive. It would be best if you never crossed the dive limit otherwise; you may end up in danger.
