Mehreen Wooden Painted Box

Sometimes the most striking things are the ones that keep it simple. The Mehreen Wooden Painted Box is a square, upright piece in deep dark wood with just enough colour and detail to make you look twice, but never more than it needs.

Built from solid mango wood with a rich, near-black finish, this box has a structured, almost architectural feel. The flat lid sits slightly wider than the body, edged with a carved brass-toned border that matches the base, giving the whole piece a clean, framed silhouette. At the centre of the lid, a hand-painted medallion in red, green, white and gold sits quietly, flanked by small folk-art corner motifs. It's restrained, intentional, and all the more striking for it.

A narrow painted band of chevron and leaf patterns in green, red and gold wraps around the middle of the box where the lid meets the base, the only line of colour on an otherwise dark canvas. A small brass clasp with a thread tie at the front keeps it shut. No lock, no fuss, just a gentle hold.

The tall, cube-like proportions make this one a little different from the usual flat keepsake box. It holds more than you'd expect, rings, bracelets, folded notes, small bottles, whatever you want tucked away in something beautiful. Set it on a shelf, a side table, or a console and it anchors the space without crowding it.
