HONORING THE HEROES WHO BROUGHT PATIENTS’ AID FOUNDATION’S VISION TO LIFE
Patients Aid Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing financial assistance to underprivileged patients seeking treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi, Pakistan. Founded in 1961, the organisation has touched countless lives, alleviating the financial burden on families struggling with medical emergencies.
On the occasion of International Labor Day, Patients’ Aid Foundation takes this opportunity to pay tribute and honor the hardworking labor behind its success. These dedicated individuals exist and tirelessly work day and night to support and nurture the vision of humanitarian efforts, aiming to make free healthcare for patients accessible in Pakistan and to prevent lives from being lost in the struggle against inflation and poverty.
Patients’ Aid Foundation’s mission was conceived with this idea in mind, as stated by Mushtaq Chhapra, the chairman of Patients’ Aid Foundation:
“A true partnership. We have not allowed the government to abdicate its responsibilities. The government provides the staff, their salaries, and medication. What the Patients’ Aid Foundation brings are the ideas, systems, processes, and much-needed facilities and equipment.”
This exemplifies Patients’ Aid Foundation’s commitment to shaping the healthcare system in a way that benefits all, regardless of social class, ensuring that no one is deprived of their basic rights to quality healthcare. The people who work day and night are the heroes capable of turning this vision into reality.
A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT OF BUILDING A BETTER JPMC
The story of Patients’ Aid Foundation begins with the vision of a single individual, Mr. Mushtaq Chhapra, a Pakistani businessman and philanthropist. Witnessing patient struggles at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), he aimed to bridge the gap between rising healthcare costs and limited patient resources. But no vision flourishes in isolation. Here, Dr. Seemin Jamali, a respected healthcare professional, joined his mission. Her understanding of JPMC’s challenges and her dedication to resource mobilization were instrumental in building Patients’ Aid Foundation’s support network.

Dr. Seemin Jamali
While Mr. Mushtaq Chhapra and Dr. Seemin Jamali ignited the spark of this mission, Patients’ Aid Foundation’s success wouldn’t be possible without the countless individuals who nurtured the flame. These heroes come from all walks of life, but they all share a common passion for helping others.
From the visionary engineers who laid the foundation to the dedicated healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and supportive staff who delivered exceptional care, each individual plays a crucial role. Project managers keep everything on track, while hospital administration ensures alignment with goals, and support staff keeps the facility running smoothly. Community volunteers who donate their time and skills to support the foundation’s work, and philanthropists who donate money to help the foundation continue its mission.
Patients’ Aid serves our community with the motto “where humanity meets healthcare,” ensuring that no life is lost. A heartfelt tribute to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff who have dedicated extra hours to care for patients and provide the best healthcare to everyone who comes to JPMC with the hope of another day and continues to do so.
Patients’ Aid Foundation ensures the installation of all necessary and advanced equipment to serve humanity in the best way possible. They continue to work diligently to address all departments at JPMC that require attention, making countless lives possible. Ultimately, it all comes down to the dedicated individuals working on the frontlines and behind the scenes, their dedication and compassion make a real difference in the lives of the patients they serve.
