Herbalife in India: What the 2025 Associate Earnings Statement Says

In India, Herbalife calls its sellers Associates. The paperwork is public, and it is worth reading before you sign up.

Searching "Is Herbalife legit or a scam?" in India returns a lot of verdicts. Herbalife India's own website returns something more useful: documents you can check.

The 2025 earnings numbers. How much do Herbalife distributors earn in India? According to the India Statement of Typical Associate Earnings 2025, most Associates only benefited from the product discount, and the typical Associate did not receive earnings from Herbalife. Of the 543,717 Associates who had been Associates for at least one full year, 140,297 received commissions or bonuses in a typical month. Associates typically earned in 5 out of 12 months.

Among those earners, half earned more than INR 2,611 a month. The top 10% earned more than INR 21,856, and the top 1% more than INR 296,431. The top 1% typically had six to 12 years of tenure. The statement is blunt on one line: there are no guarantees, and some Associates will succeed while some will not.

The recruiting question. Are distributors required to recruit new members? The statement says you cannot earn any money by only recruiting or only sponsoring someone.

Refunds and returns. Herbalife India's Refund Policy page says an Associate who resigns is entitled to a full refund of unopened and resalable products, literature and sales materials bought in the previous 12 months, including the cost of returning them. Retail and preferred customers can return a product within 30 days of receiving it for a refund of the purchase price. Associate Services can be reached at 080-40311444. Herbalife India's own pages word these terms slightly differently, so check the current policy before you buy.

Can Herbalife be trusted? Look at the paper trail. Trust is easier to judge from documents than from slogans. Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd. publishes a Compliance Documents page. It lists a Company Secretary's undertaking under the Direct Selling Rules, a consumer grievance redressal mechanism, an FSSAI licence, a Drugs and Cosmetics licence, and a self-declaration on dark patterns. It also publishes a list of delisted direct sellers, noting that the Direct Selling Rules, 2021 require this.

Buy from the right place. Herbalife India's Caution Notice says it does not sell or authorise Associates to sell through unauthorised channels. It recommends buying only from its Associates. It also warns against suspicious SMS, calls and WhatsApp messages about Herbalife. The Terms of Use say you do not have to become an Associate to buy products.

What about the U.S. FTC case? It is a U.S. matter. The FTC announced its 2016 settlement as a restructuring of Herbalife's U.S. business operations. For India, the documents above are the right place to look.

A sensible checklist. Read the earnings statement first. Confirm the refund terms in writing. Then ask yourself who your first customers would be. If you can answer that, you are already evaluating this like a business. If a pitch sounds far richer than the India statement's medians, ask where the numbers came from and whether they are before expenses.
