On February 8, 2024, as part of the World Vaishnav Convention 2024 held by Gaudiya Mission at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released a commemorative coin and postal stamp worth ₹150 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, and Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State for Law & Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, and Culture.

Who was Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad?

Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad was a prominent spiritual teacher and the founder of the Gaudiya Math. Born in 1874, he was a key figure in the revival and propagation of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Known for his scholarly work and spiritual teachings, he dedicated his life to spreading the message of devotion to Lord Krishna. His efforts have left a lasting legacy, influencing countless followers and spiritual movements around the world.

The Prime Minister spoke to the assembly and highlighted the beauty of Bharat Mandapam, citing the presence of many venerated saints as the reason for its grandeur. The speaker emphasised the architectural idea that drew inspiration from Lord Basweshwara's "Anubhav Mandap," a historic Indian hub for spiritual discourse.

"On the 150th birth anniversary of Srila Prabhupada ji, a similar energy can be witnessed inside Bharat Mandapam today," said the prime minister, reflecting on the moment. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming Bharat Mandapam into a hub that combines India's ancient heritage with its contemporary skills.

PM Modi recalled the G20 Summit that was held there recently and highlighted the potential of New India. He conveyed his appreciation for taking part in the World Vaishnav Convention, characterising it as a representation of "Naya Bharat," where progress and tradition coexist. The Prime Minister honoured Srila Prabhupada Ji, bowed before Lord Krishna, and complimented all those participating in the coin and postage stamp releases in his honour.

The Prime Minister praised Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's work and emphasised his part in establishing the prerequisites for feeling the bliss of devotion. He described Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as the embodiment of Krishna's love, bringing spirituality and meditation within the reach of the common people. The Prime Minister reflected on his own experience and talked about how Bhajan Keertan's happiness filled a hole in his life, highlighting the tradition of Chaitanya Prabhu's ability to transform. 

He closed by thanking Chaitanya Mahaprabhu for his profound influence on life's meaning through the poetry of Krishna Leela and expressing his gratitude throughout the keertan.
