Data-Driven Decision Making: Turning Corporate Data Into Strategic Action

Think about the last report you read at work. Did it tell you what to do next? Or did it just give you numbers?

Most reports do the second thing. They show what happened, then leave the reader to work out what it means. Busy people don’t have time for that, so they go with their gut feeling or with whoever sounds most confident.

Research suggests this is widespread. A 2020 study by Accenture and Qlik found that only about one in five workers felt confident with data. Those figures are a few years old, so check for newer ones before you quote them. Still, it matches what I see in workshops. Plenty of smart people feel unsure when a chart appears on screen.
