AfterShip Intelligence Turns Post Purchase Into a Revenue Growth Engine
AfterShip Intelligence is redefining how e-commerce brands approach the period after checkout, replacing manual, disconnected processes with agentic automation and predictive analytics for shipping, tracking, and returns. AfterShip already powers branded post-purchase experiences for more than 20,000 brands worldwide, and since 2012 the company has processed shipping and returns data at massive scale. That history has produced one of the industry's largest post-purchase datasets: 14 years of shipment activity, over 11 billion shipments, nearly 110 billion delivery checkpoints, and coverage across more than 1,400 carriers.
Rather than adapting general-purpose AI for retail use, AfterShip built domain-specific models trained solely on post-purchase data. These models specialize in delivery prediction, exception forecasting, and return intelligence — giving retailers the ability to catch problems early, resolve them before customers notice, and convert routine orders into opportunities for retention and revenue.
AfterShip Founder and CEO Teddy Chan framed the shift as an operational necessity, not just an upgrade: as acquisition costs climb, brands can no longer treat tracking and returns as background tasks. The goal behind AfterShip Intelligence, he said, is to automate friction-heavy work, surface issues proactively, and keep human operators in control of AI-driven decisions.
Early Adopters Report Measurable Gains
Launch partners Dr. Squatch and Naked Wardrobe have already put the platform to work across core post-purchase functions.
Dr. Squatch implemented AfterShip Agent for exception handling and saw exception resolution times improve by more than 58%, while "where is my order" tickets — typically its highest-volume complaint — dropped by 25%. Customer sentiment on agent-handled conversations rose by 42%. The brand also rolled out AfterShip's predictive delivery features in a matter of weeks, a stark contrast to the four-plus months its previous vendor required. The result: 94% on-time delivery accuracy across 99.98% of orders, giving teams reliable visibility into expected outcomes.
Naked Wardrobe applied AfterShip Agent to return merchandise authorization (RMA) reviews, cutting review time by roughly 40% — down from the previous 5-to-10-minute average. Built-in risk assessment and customer history let the system identify low-risk RMAs automatically, allowing 15% to 20% of returns to bypass manual review entirely — a meaningful efficiency boost for a lean support team.
AfterShip Agent Streamlines Fragmented Workflows
At the center of the new platform is AfterShip Agent, the company's first AI agent purpose-built for post-purchase operations. It launches with two core capabilities — Exception Handling and RMA Review — automatically identifying shipment issues, gathering relevant order context, recommending fixes, and executing resolution steps.
This addresses a common pain point: operators often toggle between three to five separate systems just to resolve a single order. AfterShip Agent consolidates that work while preserving transparency — every action can be reviewed and explained, and human sign-off remains mandatory for financial or customer-facing decisions.
Beyond the Agent, the broader platform embeds AI throughout the post-purchase journey. Predictive Estimated Delivery Dates draw on carrier data and live shipment signals to flag at-risk orders before conventional tracking would catch them. The platform also delivers personalized product recommendations and AI-driven exchange suggestions, steering customers toward alternatives rather than defaulting straight to a refund.
Bridging AI and Commerce Platforms
While most agentic commerce innovation has centered on product discovery and checkout, AfterShip is extending that momentum to the post-purchase stage. The company now supports agent-ready APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and one-click connectors, enabling merchants to plug post-purchase intelligence directly into tools like Shopify Sidekick, Claude, and ChatGPT.
Dr. Squatch's Joan Park, Senior Customer Experience Analyst, noted that the integration gives her team the context and automation needed to resolve delivery issues faster without losing sight of customer experience.
Naked Wardrobe's Jackie Avila, Head of Customer Service, echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that automating routine return decisions frees up her team to focus judgment where it matters most — a practical use of AI that benefits both staff and shoppers.
With AfterShip Intelligence, the company is repositioning post-purchase operations from an overlooked cost center into a genuine growth lever — one that pairs predictive analytics with automation to protect revenue and strengthen customer relationships long after the sale is made.
