3 Ways To Make Your Conservatory More Livable All Year Round!
How to Create the Perfect Conservatory
Having a conservatory is a wonderful way to connect the indoors with the outdoors, and it’s a lovely extra space to have in your home. However, they’re renowned for feeling cold in the winter and too warm in the summer, so often they’re not used as a core part of the home. Yet, with some minor adjustments, they can add up to make the space feel really cosy and comfortable, to expand your home.
Improve Your Insulation
The main thing that makes conservatories more comfortable all year round is to make the temperature more controlled, and a great way to do that is to improve your insulation. If you currently don’t have any insulation, particularly if you have a glass roof or a polycarbonate roof, they act as a magnifier in terms of the heat in the summer which makes it so hot, then in the winter they let a lot of cold air in and allow the heat to escape. This combination makes the space really uncomfortable for around half of the year. So, one of the best things you can do is improve your insulation.
When you get conservatory insulation for your roof, you can either opt to get the roof replaced or you can keep the current roof. If you keep the current roof, then a tint will be applied so that the insulation isn’t visible, then you add insulation, and then stylish panels are added to finish the look. You also then benefit from more privacy if your garden is overlooked and it makes the space feel more like a room in your home if you currently have a glass or polycarbonate roof. This is an investment, but is so worth it!
Change Your Window Coverings
Something else you can do to make your conservatory more livable is to change your window coverings. Similarly to the insulation, without the right blinds in your conservatory, it's easy for heat to escape and enter, as well as very glaring light that can make the space uncomfortable. So, replacing them can make all the difference. You need to be careful when choosing the right window coverings for your home, as some conservatories are more prone to damp and it’s also easy for the blinds to get sun damaged. Roller blinds are a great option as they’re affordable and come in lots of different fabrics to suit your space specifically.
Add Soft Furnishings
Lastly, soft furnishings can transform your conservatory space. They help to create a really cosy and comfortable atmosphere rather than it feeling like quite a bare space. Things like rugs, cushions and throws create a stunning living space, then you can finish the design with lovely interior design touches, like new lighting, wall art and house plants. We particularly love house plants in a conservatory to bridge the gap between indoors and outdoors, or get some artificial florals if you’re not green fingered. It’s both practical and you benefit from the stunning interior design. We love a mainly neutral colour palette for this, and then you can add colour and texture with some of your soft furnishings.
